Shipping Small Packages

Cheatsheet

  • Ideal for packages under 9 square feet and less than 60 lbs.
  • Fast shipping times and advanced tracking with large carriers like UPS, FedEx, or DHL.
  • Less risk of damage compared to larger packages.
Why 9 Square Feet?

Packages smaller than 9 square feet are considered small. We have seen that packages over 9 square feet and/or more than 60 pounds have a much higher rate of damage during shipping.

We think this is because the way these packages are handled is different, but we don't know for sure. Our experience shows that when packages are over this size, the chance of damage is 10 to 20 times higher.

Packages less than 60 lbs or smaller than 9 square feet can be safely shipped with large carriers like UPS, FedEx, or DHL. This means faster shipping times and access to tracking numbers, updated estimates, and other services that are usually more complicated for larger packages.

To calculate square feet: Multiply the length, width, and height in inches, then divide by 1728 to get cubic feet. Ensure the result is below 9 cubic feet for safer shipping via traditional carriers.

Benefits of Using Large Carriers

  • Fast Shipping: Large carriers often offer expedited shipping options.
  • Advanced Tracking: Real-time tracking updates and detailed notifications are provided.
  • Reliability: Established networks with rigorous handling procedures reduce the risk of damage.
  • Cost-Effective: Generally more economical for smaller packages than specialized shipping methods.

By utilizing large carriers like UPS, FedEx, or DHL for small packages, customers can benefit from these advantages and have peace of mind knowing their packages are in safe hands.
